LIBRARY News Term 2 Week 3

Library

We hope the new term has started well. And, a very big welcome to new students, governesses, supervisors and families. We enjoy catching up each day on Assembly and appreciate the emails and phone calls.

Resources for class work.
The resources the teachers have requested for Term 2 have all been sent out to students. Some would have arrived before the start of the term and others during SEW as topics etc have been finalised.

National Simultaneous Storytime.
This annual event will be held on Wednesday 22 May this year. We will be joining in with over 1 million others around Australia reading the same book at the same time. The story this year is “Alpacas with maracas” by Matt Cosgrove. We will be running the event at 11.15am. We will have the story and some activities on the day. There will also be competitions to enter and a certificate for everyone who joins in. The event is also open siblings etc. Teachers will provide more information closer to the event. We will also give information on Assembly in the days leading up to the event

Premiers Reading Challenge 2019.
The Challenge on for 2019. Congratulations to those who have already returned their forms. Please keep a list of books you have been reading and you can use them for the PRC this year. Remember it is 12 books that you have read or listened to (eg an audio book), have been read to you or your class has read. The 2019 forms are available on the Library page of the website at http://www.openaccess.edu.au/about/library

Completed forms (either scanned or emailed) need to be returned to the library.

Red Bags.
Thank you to everyone who has returned resources they have finished with in the red bags and often with extra red bags too. Please turn the red card around so the Reply Paid option is showing and use the cable tie in the front plastic pocket to secure the bag as it travels around with Australia Post etc.

We are running short of red bags and would appreciate you sending back any you have finished with. We are also looking to purchase more to help alleviate the shortgaes.

Britannica Online.
All students have access to Britannica – a safe, up-to-date and age appropriate information resource. The site gives access to a range of resources including encyclopaedia articles, videos, magazine articles and much more. You can access Britannica from the Library Page on the OAC website at https://www.openaccess.edu.au/about-oac/library You log on with the user name marden and the password library. Then choose either the Primary or Middle level and you are ready to use the resources available there. On the home page before you log in you are also able to download a brochure that gives extra information.

Other library resources are available via the OAC website.
As well as the resources we send out there are other resources available via the OAC website under the library link at http://www.openaccess.edu.au/about/library including Britannica Online mentioned above. Please let us know if you would like more information about using these resources. We will also be coming on to lessons etc to work with students to use them too. And, I am happy to run a session for Supervisors too.
