Remote & Isolated Children’s Exercise

RICE has been providing support to children & their families in the remote and isolated areas of South Australia since 1976.

Based in Port Augusta, RICE is a unique mobile children’s service offering a range of education and care services, travelling to visit families and communities across an area of approximately 650,000 square kilometres.

  • ACTIVITY DAYS – provided for children at community events, offering fun & creative activities
  • OUTBACK CHILDCARE – A mobile childcare program, providing care in the family home for children 0-12 years of age
  • PRESCHOOL – program provided by an Early Childhood Teacher for children of preschool age
  • PLAYDAYS – Bringing families within a district together to provide opportunities to interact, play and learn in a safe and positive environment
  • REMOTE CRECHE – creche services provided at Hawker & Orroroo during the school terms
  • RESOURCE CENTRE – Housing a huge range of educational games, crafts, toys and resources to promote fun, creativity and play for families to borrow
  • WELLBEING – Key contact for families requiring support and/or direction to additional agencies while working in partnership with other RICE staff to deliver up to date information on health, welfare and education services
