Introducing CareerChat
The department has developed CareerChat to help students investigate career pathways.
CareerChat uses generative AI to support student’s exploration of career education. It is a new resource that helps to answer student questions about education and training options, and the world of work.
CareerChat is secure and user information is stored in the Department for Education’s secure data storage. Guardrails are in place with filters and rules that prevent the unintended provision of information. This ensures only career education related questions can be asked, and responses are tailored to a student’s year level. CareerChat is a valuable career pathways resource designed to prompt thinking and ideas for avenues of further investigation. It is important for students to check the facts provided, particularly details related to tertiary or Vocational Education and Training (VET). Students are encouraged to share their CareerChat experience with their teachers, careers education leaders, and family members.
During term 3 we are trialing the option for students to provide feedback, which will inform further refinements. These may include adjusting technological sensitivities, information accessibility, and filtering levels.
CareerChat will support students seeking more information on career options and provides an additional online tool to complement MyCareerPortal and myfuture resources, which are freely available to government secondary students through the Student Pathways website.
