Who is this course for?

Students who have successfully completed English at Year 10 and possess sound skills in written and spoken English, and are interested in critical analysis of a range of texts.

NOTE: Completion of this course with a C grade or higher meets part of the compulsory literacy component of SACE.

This course leads to Stage 1 English B and Stage 2 English.

What will I learn?

Students will develop their communication, language, and critical literacy skills by creating and responding to a range of texts, including:

  • Short stories
  • Film
  • Narrative
  • Comparative writing

How will I be assessed?

Students will demonstrate evidence of your learning through the following:

  • Assessment Type 1: Responding to Texts (50%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Creating Texts (25%)
  • Assessment Type 3: Intertextual Study (25%)

For a 10-credit subject, students will provide evidence of their learning through four assessments, with at least one assessment from each assessment type. At least one assessment will be an oral or multimodal presentation, and at least one will be in written form.
