Students interested in better understanding issues associated with health.

Good for those looking to pursue a career in health science or alternative health fields or keen to look at their own health in greater depth.

No background knowledge is assumed.

What will I learn?

Health is divided into four key concepts to be explored over the course of the subject

Health Literacy

  • Understanding health terms and concepts
  • Developing and reflecting upon student's own and other's beliefs
  • Skills in researching accurate and reliable information

Health Determinants

  • Understanding the many factors that influence the health of individuals and communities
  • Understanding inequalities in society and the impact on health
  • Personal responsibility for health

Social Equity

  • Exploring principles of social equity and the role it plays in health
  • Advocating for improved health outcomes in society
  • Challenging stereotypes

Health Promotion

  • Understanding the role of Health Promotion in society
  • Exploring current initiatives and their effectiveness in improving health outcomes.
  • Participating in health promoting activities.

How will I be assessed?

Students will complete FIVE assessments tasks for Stage 2 Health and Wellbeing.

You will demonstrate evidence of your learning through the following assessment types:

Internal 70%- 4 tasks

  • Initiative (40%)
  • Folio (30%)

External 30%- 1 task

  • Inquiry (Negotiated Health Topic)
