Who is this course for?

In Stage 2 Creative Arts students work independently on the development of individual products under the guidance of their teacher. Students negotiate both practical and research based assignments. It is an expectation in year 12 that students spend at least four hours per week on Creative Arts outside of lesson time.

What will I learn?

Students in Creative Arts may undertake an arts, craft, design or individual focus. Assessment tasks are designed to enable some student choice in conjunction with teacher directed learning. Students are required to work as independent artists, craftspeople or designers negotiating their arts pathway with their teacher.

Creative Arts is very flexible. Students can choose any area they are already skilled in and wish to explore further. Success in this subject requires individual initiative and dedication. Students may choose from the following pathways:

  • Digital Art – with teacher led initial skills basics to support student’s individual development.
  • Visual Art – with teacher led initial skills basics to support student’s individual product development.
  • Individual Pathway – students who have an interest in a particular field outside of school e.g. dance, music may create their own individual pathway with support from the teacher.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment Type 1: Product 50%

Students develop and present two creative arts products. One product may be experimental and used to prepare for the other product, or both products may be unrelated.

Assessment Type 2: Investigation 20%

Students undertake two inquiries that involve research into an area of arts practice. Where possible this is linked to their creative product development.

Assessment Type 3: External Assessment – Practical Skills 30%

Students develop a portfolio of practical skills and techniques that involves exploration and analysis of skills which where possible will support the production of their other creative arts assessment tasks.
