Who is this course for?

Students who are interested in the study of contemporary societies, their structure and systems, and the interactions which occur within and between them. No background knowledge is assumed. It is useful for further studies for Stage 2 Aboriginal Studies, Stage 2 Modern History and Stage 2 Society and Culture.

What will I learn?

You will become more informed about the social, political, economic and cultural factors that affect different societies in both an Australian and global context.

You will study the following topics:

  • Wealth, Work and Status, with a focus on an Australian context
  • Popular Culture, with a focus on a global context
  • Individual Investigation of a social issue

How will I be assessed?

You will demonstrate evidence of your learning through the following assessment types:

  • Source analysis completed as an oral
  • Group activity (compulsory)
  • Investigation
