Who is this course for?

This is for students who wish to begin their study of Japanese at senior secondary level and have successfully completed Japanese Beginners A.

Completion of enrolment depends on meeting the eligibility criteria set by the SACE Board. Enrolment with no prior studies of Stage 1 Japanese Beginners A is to be negotiated with an OAC Languages Leader. New students who have taken Stage 1 Japanese Beginners A at institutions other than OAC must submit an eligibility form.

This course progresses at an accelerated and intensive rate. Students are expected to develop their skills and intercultural competency quickly.

Completing this course provides a pathway to Stage 2 Japanese Beginners.

What will I learn?

Students are expected to develop and apply their linguistic and intercultural knowledge, understanding, and skills to:

  1. interact with others in Japanese in interpersonal situations
  2. create texts in Japanese for specific audiences, purposes, and contexts
  3. analyse texts that are in Japanese to interpret meaning.
  • The Personal World
  • The Japanese-speaking Communities

How will I be assessed?

Students will demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Assessment Type 1: Interaction
  • Assessment Type 2: Text Production
  • Assessment Type 3: Text Analysis

It is recommended that students have their own bilingual hardcopy dictionary.
